APPLICATION FOR WIDOW'S ARMY PENSION

County of Jefferson
On this 10th day of January
A.D. one thousand eight hundred and sixty six personally appeared
before me C H Patton Clerk of the County Court,
Artemissa Wilkey a resident of Spring Garden
in the County of Jefferson State of Illinois aged 29 years,
who being first duly sworn according to law, doth
on her oath make the following declaration, in order to obtain the
benefit of the provision made by the act of Congress approved July 14,
1862. That she is
the widow of Carter Wilkey who was a private in company C
commanded by Capt. Prigmore in the 18th Regiment of Infantry
commanded by Colonel Lawles
of Illinois in the war of 1861, who died on the 9th
day of Nov 1865, at Pine Bluff in the County of
State of Arkansas that his death was caused by
Lung Fever. She further declares that she was married
to the said Carter Wilkey on the 27th day of Feb 1851
at Jefferson Co ILL by J N Brookins a J P that
her husband, the aforesaid Carter Wilkey died on the day above
mentioned, and that she (1) has remained a widow ever since the death
of her said husband
as will more fully appear by reference to the proof hereto annexed.
She also declares that she has not in any manner been engaged in, or aided
and abetted the rebellion in the United States. And she further states that
the best evidence she is able to procure of her marriage is (2) the
official record of her said
marriage, a true copy of which is herewith submitted.
That the names and
ages of her children under sixteen years of age, and the place of
residence, is as follows: (3) Mary M. born Dec 27 1851, Doctor H
born Feb 15 1854, Edmon born Jan 30th 1856, James V M born Dec 11
1857, Malinda C born Jan 30th 1860, Sarah A born July 29 1862, Clarissa
B born Mar 19 1864
residence with her near Spring Garden ILL
She hereby appoints NORMAN B. SMITH, of Washington City, D.C.,
her attorney, with power of substitution,
to prosecute her claim and receive the certificate.
