Alva Eugene “Digger” Buchanan
Alva Eugene “Digger” Buchanan, 78, Mt. Vernon, died at 1:20 p.m.
Thursday, June 7, 2007, at St. Louis University Hospital. Mr. Buchanan
was an oil field worker and also did tree trimming. He was born Oct. 5,
1928, in Wayne City, a son of Guy Herbert and Ethel (Smith) Buchanan.
The funeral will be held 1 p.m. Monday at Mt. Vernon Memorial Gardens
chapel in Woodlawn. The Rev. Richard McCormick will officiate. Burial will
be in Mt. Vernon Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 12:30 p.m.
until the time of the service Monday at the Memorial Gardens chapel.
Survivors include a son, Alva Ray Buchanan and wife Tish of Mt. Vernon; a
daughter, Teresa Baldridge of Mt. Vernon; three grandchildren; two
great-grandchildren; four sisters, Lucille Ehrhart of Wayne City, Sarah
Woody of St. Louis, Barbara Weaks of Bloomfield, N.M., and Millie Fotsch
of Springfield, Mo.; and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Buchanan’s parents, son Tim Daniels and four brothers, Charles, Guy,
Vernon and Ralph Buchanan, preceded him in death.

Center Activity Department and will be accepted at the funeral home or may
be mailed to Hughey Funeral Home, P.O. Box 721, Mt. Vernon, IL 62864. Arrangements
