William Henry Brookman was a veteran of the Civil War and in later years would relate so vividly the fear and torture he experienced when lying for the entire night on the battle field. He received a pension, enough to keep his family without body labors on his part. He did the family buying and grocery shopping. William Henry was married three times. The first wife was Harriet Donoho, the daughter of Billie Donoho and his wife, Betty Hatchett. To this union was born one son,
After the death of Harriet he married Elizabeth Dale Simmons, the widow of Marcus A. Simmons. Two daughters were born:
