Schuyler C. HUSTON, son of Ludwell Gain HUSTON and Josie COLLANE came to Jefferson County from Indiana. in 1883. He first lived in the Pleasant Grove area north of Mt. Vernon, Illinois. later moved to the East Salem neighborhood northeast of Mt. Vernon, where he spent the remainder of his life. Schuyler married Effie OWENS, daughter of John and Louisa OWENS in 1898. To this family eleven children were born:

Lulu STOYE has two sons Irwin Terry BEAN and Gerald Edward BEAN. Ardella CARLTON has one daughter Estalee Dorris. Fred has two sons Wayne and Wendell Lester has two sons Dwight L. and Roger. Russell has one daughter Betty Jo SNYDER. Emery has four sons Richard, Frank, Everett, Jerry and four daughters Mrs. Barbara DELANEY, Mrs. Nellie PETTY, Mrs.Margaret HIEMMER and Mrs. Flora Ellen TROTTER. Glen died in 1965 and has three daughters: Mrs. Charles (Lulu Mae) DUNCAN. Mrs. Marvin (Ruth) AUSTIN and Mrs. Charles (Betty Alice) BLAGG. Mr. Huston was a farmer. He was a great baseball fan and played on a local team in the early 1900's. He also worked on the county roads and helped build Neil Lake north of Mt. Vernon. Their daughter Dorothy passed away at the age of sixteen and Alva D. and Bessie at a very early age. Mr. Huston passed away in 1949 and Mrs. Huston in 1964.
