Joseph V. WARD, farmer, P.O. Mount Vernon, is a native of Lawrence County, Ohio, and was born April 7, 1832. His father, William WARD (deceased) was a native of Maryland and came to this county with his family in 1844. Our subject attended the old fashioned subscription school, taught in a log cabin with split pole seats, puncheon floor, a log out for a window and a stick and clay chimney.

He was married, November 4, 1852, to Nancy HALES, a daughter of Thomas HALES. They had seven children born to them, of whom five are living, viz.
