Thomas Howell Ashley Township in Washington Co. around 1824 or 1826 time frame along with his mother-in-law Mary McMillian and several of her children. Illinois land records show he bought 400 acres in Jefferson Co TWP and Range 02S 01E sections 19 & 20 from April 1848 through Dec 1854. The Howell Cemetery is in section 20.

The first sections he bought were in section 20.
