Erected on September 11, 1837
This simple wooden church housed a number of Mt. Vernon congregations in a period of 71 years. In 1840, while it was being used as the Jefferson county courthouse, Abraham Lincoln was neied use of the building for political speech. The church-courthouse is shown as it appeared in 1890 when it was the Epsicopalian church. The Episcopal congregation bought the building in 1880 and used it until 1900 as a place of worship.
