Wm. H.R. Morris, for many yrs. one of Webber twp.'s most prominent and respected citizens, died at his home in Bluford yesterday afternoon about 5 o'clock. Death was due to paralysis and kidney trouble from which he had been a long sufferer. About a yr. and a half ago he was stricken with paralysis and since that time has been helpless. He is survived by 3 sons and 1 daughter: Fred Morris, Bluford; Wm. F. Morris, Marion; E. N. Morris and Miss Ophelia Morris, Bluford. Mrs. Morris died about 18 yrs. ago. Wm. H.R. Morris was born in Robertson county, Tenn., but has been long a resident of Jefferson county, having come to the county before the Civil war. Dr. and Mrs. Andy Hall and Dr. and Mrs. Chas. W. Hall and families of this city, are in McLeansboro today attending the funeral of Dr. Andy Hall's mother, Mrs. H.W. Hall, who died Christmas night. She would have been 87 yrs. old in January. The funeral is being held at the Baptist church in McLeansboro, the interment taking place at the Odd Fellows Cemetery. Mrs. Hall was only sick since Sunday when she took down with pneumonia. She was born in Knob Prairie, Franklin county, in Jan. 1831. Her husband, Col. H. W. Hall, aged 92 yrs., still survives her. He is the only living soldier of the Mexican war in Hamilton county. Four sons and a daughter also survive her: J.C. Hall, McLeansboro; father Dr. Chas. Hall, of this city; Dr. W.W. Hall, McLeansboro; Dr. Andy Hall, Mt. Vernon; C.M. Hall, Dahlgren; and Mrs. John Norris, McLeansboro. January 2, 1918 Mt. Vernon Register News Mrs. Mary Junkins, wife of J. E. Junkins, died of consumption at her home on South Fifth street Saturday afternoon, aged forty-three years. Deceased was born in Elk Prairie and was a daughter of H. R. Dare. She leaves a husband and several children. The funeral took place at Hickory Hill this morning. May 9, 1898 Mt. Vernon Register News Emma Woods was born April 3, 1856, about 5 miles south of Mt. Vernon, Ill, died at the home of her son, 310 S. 13th st., Feb. 2, 1917, aged 60 yrs. 9 mos. and 29 days. Deceased was the daughter of John and Martha Woods,being their 3rd child. She re- sided near Mt. V until 27 yrs. ago and then resided in Wayne City, Ill., then moving to this city 5 yrs. ago. She was married to Jesse Goldman in 1891. He departed this life July 12, 1904. She was converted in 1905 and united with the Methodist church in Wayne City. She leaves to mourn their loss, one son Clarence, of this city, three sisters, Mrs. H. Volz of Hydro, Ok; Mrs. G.F. NcNew of Okawville, Ill.; and Mrs. A.N. NcNew of this city. One brother Andy Woods of Grays Ridge, Mo. and a host of friends and relatives. Services were conducted by Rev. C. S. Mundell assisted by Rev. J.H. Voliva. Interment at Oakwood cemetery. February 5, 1917 Mt. Vernon Register News Lewis Shelton, aged 63 yrs., died this morning at 5 o'clock of pneumonia, at his home in Belle Rive. He is survived by a wife and one child. Burial will be had at Shelton cemetery near Dahlgren tomorrow. Mr. Shelton was a member of the M.E. church and services will be held at 1 p.m. January 2, 1918 Mt. Vernon Register News Mrs. Jessie M. Peck, 54 yrs. old, wife of George M. Peck, died at home in McClellan twp midnight Tues., death being caused as the result of an operation. Payne died last night at 10 o'clock at the Egyptian hospital,to which in- stitution she had been taken about 10 o'clock yesterday morning to be operated on for locked bowels. She was taken sick Sunday night. The family moved in late spring to the farm about 4 miles from Mt. V. Mrs. Payne is survived by her husband, one son and a girl they took into the family sometime ago, and the following named brothers and sisters: Dr. W.A. Jones, Moun- tain Grove, Mo., George and Clark Jones, and Mrs. Ed Walker, Mt. Vernon. The funeral will be held Sat. at West Salem church at 2 o'clock and will be conducted by the Rev. Jesse Wells, of this city. October 3, 1917 Mt. Vernon Register News Sharlet Bigham LaBarbera David D. Morgan was born in the city of Cordiff, Wales, Oct. 6, 1833; died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. M.E. Dycus in Woodlawn,on Feb. 16th, 1915; age 81 yrs. 4 mos. and 10 days. He came to America with his parents in 1854. He was a member of the Woodlawn Baptist church. Surviving are three children: Dave of Springfield, Ill.; Mrs. M.E. Dycus and Arthur of Woodlawn; also three stepchildren; T.H. Smallwood of Fortscoat, Kansas; Mrs. Lizzie Good of Woodlawn; and Will Smallwood of Panama, with several grandchildren and great grandchildren. The remains were taken to Patoka, his old home, and laid to rest beside his wife who preceded him to the better world twenty-two yrs. ago. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Kelly at the Baptist church in Patoka on Feb. 18, at 1 p.m. February 24, 1915 Mt. Vernon Register News Submitted by Sharlet Bigham LaBarbera Mary J. Allen Loller passed away at her home in Carbondale, Ill, at 8:45 a.m., Feb. 8, 1917. She leaves four children as follows: Theo, Theran, Bernard and Max, father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. R.N. Allen of Sheller, Ill., one sister, Mrs. Ezra Bottenfield of Sparta, Ill., three brothers, J.W. Allen of Oakdale, Ill., S.J. Allen of Sheller and Harry D. Allen of Couer d'Alene, Idaho. All were present at her death bed except Harry. She belonged to the Methodist Episcopal church. After the death of her husband, Albert H. Lollar, in 1903, when their child Max was but eleven months old, she assumed the responsibilty of raising her children. She was born May 6, 1874. At the old home church her funeral was on Feb. 9. Casey Ave., Tues. afternoon at 1:30 p.m., his death being caused from old age and consumption. Mr. Keeling was an old soldier. The funeral services will be held at the residence Thurs morning at 11. A. and Lois Hughey was born Feb. 8, 1864 and died at his home near Belle Rive, April 22, 1915. He leaves behind his widow, Hester Flint Hughy to whom he was married Jan. 15, 1888; his mother, Mrs. Lois Hughey of Kansas City; three brothers, Thos.L. and B.F. of Kansas City; and John S. of Belle Rive; two sisters, Mrs. Jas. Womelduff and Mrs. Luman Holder of Kansas City. His father, Dr. Wm. A. Hughey and two sisters, Sarah Belldona and Mrs. Lois Lenora Shipley have preceded him to the glory world. April 27, 1915 Mt. Herdman telling of the death of his wife which took place at their home in Lebanon, Ill., on Thurs. The funeral will be held Sat. Mrs. Herdman was well known in Mt. V., her husband at one time having been a minister in this city. February 5, 1915 Mt Vernon Register News Submitted by Sharlet Bigham LaBarbera Thomas J. Drew was born March 1, 1847; departed this life Dec. 15, 1917; age 70 yrs. 9 mos. and 14 days. He was united in marriage to Harriet Boster, Jan. 24, 1869. To this union were born two daughters, Mary Ann and Margaret Francis, both died in infancy. He was a member of a family of nine children. Father, mother, sister and six child- ren having preceded him to the better land, namely; Sarah Capps, Benjamin , John Daniel, James Drew, Leui and Henry Risley. He united with the Baptist church when moving to Dahlgren some 12 yrs. ago. He united with the Methodist Episcopal church in which he remained a faithful mem- ber until death. In 1865, when 18 yrs. old he joined the army and served his country in the 45th Ill. infantry until the close of the war. He leaves to mourn their loss a wife, little Oscar Kelly, one brother, David Risley, and a number of nieces and nephews. January 2, 1918 Mt. Vernon Register News Submitted by Sharlet Bigham LaBarbera Louella Iona Price was born Sept. 15, 1869 and died at Youngstown, Ohio, on Feb. 26, 1915, aged 45 yrs. She was born and grew to womanhood at Divide in this county, being a daughter of David and Mary A. Price. She was married to Charles Maynor on March 8, 1891, who preceded her to the grave in 1897. To this union one son, Harry B. Maynor still survives. She was married at Youngstown, Ohio, to Harry G. Probst on Nov. 5, 1914, who still survives her. She had resided in Youngstown the past two yrs. The remains were accompanied by the devoted husband and son, Harry.She was a faithful member of the Baptist church at Panther Fork. She was also a member of the Eastern Star lodge of Daughters of Rebecca at Dix, Ill. The remains were laid to rest at Harmony on Mon. at noon, the Rev. H.L. Smith and Chas. Hunt officiating. Price on Cherry St. of the death of his sister, Mrs. Iona Probst, at the hospital at Youngstown, O. following an operation. Mrs. Bradford was almost 87 yrs. old and death was due principally to old age. She is survived by one son, George Bradford and 3 daughters, Mrs. Josie Starner, Mrs. Fannie Wilkerson and Mrs. Rosella Ford. The funeral will be held tomorrow with burial at Williams' cemetery. January 2, 1918 Mt. Vernon Register News Submitted by Sharlet Bigham LaBarbera H.R. Allen was born in Jefferson county, Jan. 18, 1834, and died Feb. 1, 1917. He was the oldest child of Rev. John Wesley Allen. He was married to Nancy C. Tate April 14, 1854 at Richview, Ill., and to this union five children were born, three of which are still living. His wife died Feb. 15, 1874. On Nov. 26, 1874, he was again married, this time to Mrs. Sarah Hancock of Jefferson county. To this union four children were born, of which three still survive. In 1875 he moved into Jefferson county, where he lived until his death. He was 83 and 14 days old. To mourn his death are: His widow, Mrs. Sallie Allen, daughters, Mrs. Perry Ford of Vic- torville, Cal., Mrs. Thomas Ford of Kinsley, Kan., Mrs. Anna Holt of St. Louis, Mo., Mrs. Minnie Popp of Overland, Mo., and sons Don C. Allen of Mt. Vernon, Lon C. Allen of Mt. Vernon, a sister, Mrs. Mary Taylor of Boyd, a brother, Harvey, of Harvel, Ill., and a number of nieces and nephews, grand children, great grandchildren and a host of friends. February 7, 1917 Mt. Vernon Register News Submitted by Sharlet Bigham LaBarbera KILLED NEAR KELL Charles Wilkes, an old resident of Jefferson county, was killed near his home close to Kell, Friday morning. Mr. Wilkes went out in the morning to haul some logs and no more had been seen of him until he was found that eve- ning. The cause of his death was attributed to a mule kicking him and instantly killing him. The funeral was held Saturday afternoon. Centralia Democrat September 28, 1910 Mt. George Johnson died at home at Keens today from the effects of a dose of poison administered by Dr. Branson of that village by mistake. Johnson had been sick for some time and went to Dr. Branson to get some medicine. The latter gave him a liberal dose of a colored fluid from a bottle which stood in his office, but the result was very different from what he expected and the patient instead of getting better grew rapidly worse and died a few hours later from the effects of the potion he had taken. The particulars of the unfortunate affair could not be learned. We are under obligations to Capt. F. W. Havill for the facts which we have related. February 15, 1898 Mt. Vernon Register News

Leo Frazier of Rome township; was found dead in his field, after going to take cows out to pasture. He was well liked member of this area. Leo died of apparent heart attack......He was born around 1832.........and died on Dec 16,1894.............
