John and Rhoda Black

The following document was transcribed from Deed Book H, PP. 248 & 249 and the Jefferson County Court House by Janet Rohlfs on April 18, 1995.

This deed made and entered into this 19th day of April Eighteen hundred and 55 by and between Louisa Jones & James Jones, her husband, & Robert C. Black & Martha Jane Black, his wife, of Franklin County state of Illinois and Perlina Ann Atkins & Moses Atkins, her husband, of the County of Jefferson and State aforesaid, heirs at Law of the estate of Roda (sic) Scott deceased late of Jefferson County state of Illinois parties of the first part and Samuel A. Black of the County of Jefferson and State of Illinois of the second part witnesseth that the said parties of the first In consideration of the sum of one hundred & twenty-five dollars to them in hand paid by the party of the second part the receipt of which is hereby acknowledged do by these presents grant bargain sell and convey unto the party second part his heirs and assigns forever all our right interest & claim of the undivided fourth of the North East fourth of the North E. quarter of section Ten in Township four south of Range two East lying and being in the County of Jefferson and State aforesaid containing forty acres more or less of which Rhoda Scott died seized To have and to hold the same together with all the rights immunities privileges and appurtenances to the same belonging unto the said party of the second part and to his heirs and assigns forever. The sd parties of the first part hereby covenanting that they their heirs executors and administrators will warrant and defend the title of the premises to the said party of the second part and to his heirs and assigns forever against the lawful claim of all persons. In witness whereof the said parties of the first have here unto set their hands and seals the day and date above written.

Be it remembered that Louisa Jones & James Jones her husband 8r Robert C. Black & Martha J. Black his wife & Perlina B. Atkins & Moses B. Atkins her husband Heirs at Law of the Estate of Rhoda Scott Deceased late of the County of Jefferson and State of Illinois who are all personally known to me to be the same persons whose names are subscribed to the foregoing Instrument of writing as parties thereto this day personally appeared before me Elisha Wilson a Justice of peace within and for said County and State severally acknowledged the same to be there act and deed for the purposes therein set forth and Martha J. Black, wife of said Robert C. Black and Louisa Jones and Perlina Ann Atkins wives of James Jones and Moses B. Atkins on an examination separate and apart from their said husbands after the contents of the foregoing deed was by me explained to them acknowledged that they freely voluntarily and without any undue influence of their said husbands signed the foregoing deed and relinquished their dower in the Lands therein mentioned.
