Joseph Vincent Adams

Joseph Vincent Adams, 70, of Mt. Vernon died 3:55 p.m. Nov. 8, 2004, at St. Mary's Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon.

He was first employed with Spector Motor Freight System. He then worked as an insurance agent for Knights of Columbus Insurance and later for Metropolitan Insurance. He retired from Modern Woodmen of America Insurance.

Mr. Adams was born June 16, 1934, in Marion to Raymond and Ann (Lato) Adams. He married Sue Carol (Graves) Adams April 28, 1956, in Cicero; she survives.

Funeral mass will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary Catholic Church. The Rev. Daniel Jurek will officiate. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery in Mt. Vernon.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon. There will be a Biblical wake service held at 8 p.m. on Wednesday.

Mr. Adams is survived by his wife, Sue Adams of Mt. Vernon; a son, Joseph L. Adams of Nashville, Tenn.; daughters Ralyn Woodrome of Mt. Vernon and Ramona AmRhein and husband Jim of Indianapolis, Ind.; grandchildren Adam Woodrome of Evansville, Ind., Erica Woodrome of Mt. Vernon, Lora Woodrome of Mt. Vernon, Rachel AmRhein of Indianapolis, Ind., Melissa AmRhein of Indianapolis, Ind., and Joshua AmRhein of Indianapolis, Ind.; and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Loren and Lorena Graves of Mt. Vernon.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Mary Ann Rader; and a niece, Janice Rader Olson.

Mr. Adams was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church. He was a fourth degree knight with Monsignor James P. Burke Council 2964 Knights of Columbus. He was a member of the Mt. Vernon Elks Club. He was a U.S. Navy veteran.

For those who wish, memorials may be made to St. Mary School, the St. Mary's Church Building Fund, the American Heart Association or the American Diabetes Association and will be accepted at the funeral home or may be mailed to Hughey Funeral Home, P.O. Box 721, Mt. Vernon, IL 62864.
