Mrs. Sarah Adams Mrs. Sarah Ellen Adams, widow of George Benjamin Adams, died at her home, 1012 S. 12th street at 4:45 pm yesterday. Her age was 78 years and 29 days. She had been in ill health for six years and was seriously ill for the past two weeks. Funeral services will be held at the Second Baptist Church Friday at 2 pm conducted by the Rev. Sam McCoy and the Rev. H.T. Starkey and burial will be in the Bethel Memorial Cemetery. The body will be removed from Hawkins and Pulley Funeral Home at 4:30 pm today to the family home, where it will lie in state. Friends may call at any time up to the funeral hour. Mrs. Adams was born in Jefferson County, April 20, 1865, the daughter of Marion and Louisa (Page) Bumpus. On December 16, 1880, she was united in marriage with George Benjamin Adams, who preceded her in death April 24, 1942. Mrs. Adams was a lifetime citizen of Jefferson County. She had resided in Mt. Vernon for the past 21 years, coming here from Dodds township. A lifetime Christian, she had been a member of the Second Baptist church for the past 20 years. Mrs. Adams was a lover of children and of her home. She is survived by two children, Fern Adams and Will Adams, both of Mt. Vernon; four sisters, Mrs. Laura Estes, Mrs. Della Smith and Mrs. Ollie Milton of Mt. Vernon and Mrs. Murtie Hales of Wichita, Kansas; two brothers, H.A. Bumpus and Alonzo Bumpus, both of Mt. Vernon; five grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren. Two daughters, Mrs. Louisa Hails and Mrs. Carline Wilson, three sons and one brother, Alec preceded her in death. *Note* Sarah Adams died May 19, 1943
