MOUNT VERNON - Shirley Settle Adams , 73, died Wednesday morning, July 9, 2008, in Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis. She was born in Mount Vernon on June 5, 1935, the daughter of George and Lila (Tolley) Brumley. She married Kenneth Settle in June 1953 and he preceded her in death Oct. 29, 1976. She married Eddie L. Adams in June 1977, and he preceded her in death May 26, 1998.

Shirley is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Randy and Lora Settle of Herrin; one daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Jim Dollar of Mount Vernon; one granddaughter and husband, Amanda and Daniel Cutler of Woodlawn; one grandson and wife, Justin and Brynne Settle of Crab Orchard; three great-grandchildren, Gage, Adia and Ava; four sisters and two brothers-in-law, Elnetta and Ed Tyner of Indianapolis, Ind., Jean and Buster Bradford of Mount Vernon, Sue Steele and special friend, Ron Ferguson, of Mount Vernon and Delilah Jackson of Mount Vernon; and three brothers and sisters-in-law, Loren "Hank" and Donna Brumley of Mount Vernon, Dalfrey and Shirley Brumley of Texico and Charles and Vickie Brumley of Kell.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Ed Steele, Benny Jackson, Betty Brumley and Robert Bodine.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 12, 2008, in Johnston Funeral home in Ina, with Brother David Shores officiating. Burial will be in Kirk Cemetery in Ina. Visitation will be after 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
