Doris Virginia Allen, 84, of Mt. Vernon, died 10:25 a.m. July 31, 2003, at Jeffersonian Care Center.

Mrs. Allen was a homemaker. Born July 27, 1919, in Mt. Vernon, she was a daughter of Milton and Flossie (Brown) Trout.

She married Loren H. Allen on March 3, 1940, in Cape Girardeau, Mo., and he preceded her in death.

Funeral service specifics have not yet been announced. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery in Marion.

She is survived by two sons, Kenneth Allen and wife Janet of Oswego and Joe Allen of Carbondale; a daughter, Carol Hughey and husband Jerry of Mt. Vernon; two grandchildren, Joan (Hughey) Henson and husband Michael of Belleville and Andrew Allen and wife Lorri of Oswego; three great-grandchildren, Haley Elizabeth and Evan Michael Henson, both of Belleville; and Sawyer Drew Allen of Oswego.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and sister Janice Sailer.

Doris was a member of Central Christian Church and also had a great love of cats.
