Grace P. Allen
Mrs. Grace P. Allen,85, of Preemption, Ill., died at 8:50 a.m. Friday at St. Luke's Hospital in Davenport, Iowa, after an extended illness. She is survived by 109 descendants. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the East Side Missionary Baptist church in Mt. Vernon, with the Rev. Ray Wilkey of Belle Rive officiating. Burial will be in Hopewell Cemetery. Friends may call at the Osborn Funeral Home in Dix after 2 p.m. Sunday.Mrs. Allen was born July 26, 1890, in Jefferson county, the daughter of Hardy and Delilah Elizabeth (Knight) Pigg. She was married in Mt. Vernon, on March 2, 1907, to Don Clarence Allen. He preceded her in death in 1961. She attended schools in Mt. Vernon, and was a member of the East Side Missionary Baptist church. Mrs. Allen is survived by three sons, Corben of Pico Rivera, Cal., Gale of Adelalnto, Cal., and Hardy, of Placerville, Cal.; seven daughters, Mrs. Savanah Warren and Mrs. Alma Whitsitt, both of Preemption, Mrs. Roberta Taylor of Pico Rivera, Cal., Mrs. Lena Hayes of Santa Fe Springs, Cal., Mrs. Anne Peterson of Apple Valley, Cal., Mrs. Freeda Smith of La Puente, Cal., and Mrs. Delilah Winn of Reevesville, Ill.; three sisters, Mrs. Florence Badett of Raytown, Mo., Mrs. Alberta Daves of Galesburg, and Mrs. Margaret Wolfe of Grays Lake, Ill.; 26 grandchildren, 59 great-grandchildren, and 14 great-great- grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a brother, and a sister, and three sons, Larren, who was shot down over the South Pacific during World War II, Gillman, and Austin, who died in infancy.
