Sarah Ann Baldwin
Mrs. Sarah Ann BALDWIN, died at the home of her son, Eli W. Baldwin, at 714 South Union street at 6 o'clock yesterday morning, aged eighty years, eight months and twenty-seven days. Deceased was born in Mahoning county, O., February 9, 1818 and come to this state many years ago and with her husband, Horace Baldwin, settled in Henry county where she resided for many years prior to coming to Mt. Vernon last summer. Her husband died about twenty-five years ago since which she has made her home with her children. Born near Youngstown, at a time when the greater part of Illinois and Indiana was in a primeval condition, Mrs. Baldwin lived throught the most interesting epoch of our national history, she saw cities rise as by magic throughout the Middle West and saw states carved out of the wilderness and grow into flourishing and populous commonwealths and was personally aquainted with many of the leading men and women who were prominent factors of the Union from savagery to civilization. Mrs. Baldwin can hardly have been said to have had any illness and her death was due more to the effects of old age than to the ravages of disease. Her funeral was held at her late home at 2 o'clock this afternoon under the ministration of Rev. S. A. Cook, pastor of the Christian church, of which organization deceased was a faithful and consistent member. The interment was in Oakwood cemetery.
