Freda K. Ballard
Freda K. Ballard, 93, of Mt. Vernon died 12:45 p.m. May 28, 2005, at her residence in Mt. Vernon. She was born May 27, 1912, in Woodlawn to Fred and Kate (Spangler) Schmidt. On June 15, 1963, she married Gale R. Ballard in Ladue, Mo., and he preceded her in death on May 27, 2002. Graveside services will be held 1:30 p.m. today at Mt. Vernon Memorial Gardens in Mt. Vernon, with interment to follow. Survivors include a son, Trent Ballard and wife Darlene of Mt. Vernon; daughters Donna Stewart and husband Leon of Morton and Connie Myers and husband David of Evansville, Ind.; grandchildren David Ballard of Carbondale, Gary and wife Debby Ballard of Estes Park, Colo., Julie and husband Larry Lowery of Bluford, Cassie Stewart of Tampa, Fla., Nathan Stewart of Morton, Jayma Barbian and husband Bruce of Mt. Vernon, Nick Meyers and wife Tracy of High Ridge, Mo., and Shay Johnson and husband Dan of St. Peters, Mo.; five grandchildren; and very special friend Ann Schmidt of Pheonix, Ariz. Preceding her in death were her parents and husband. Freda was a school teacher for 44 years and will be missed by many former students. She was also a member of First United Methodist Church in Mt.
