Thelma Souers Beck
Thelma Souers Beck, 94, of Mt. Vernon died at 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 17, 2003, at her home. She was born on August 18, 1909, in Jefferson County, the daughter of Harry and Theodicia (McMeen) Patton. She married Gordon Souers on Nov. 16, 1939, in Mt. Vernon and he preceded her in death on Aug. 24, 1966. She married John F. Beck on April 1, 1974, in Mt. Vernon and he preceded her in death on Oct. 15, 1985. She is survived by four nephews, Harry Patton and wife Patty of Bloomfield, Ind., Glen Arthur Patton and wife Margaret of Nashua, N.H., Jerry Roney and wife Margo of Mossy Rock, Wash., and Steve Roney and wife Susan of Cape Canaveral, Fla.; two nieces, Linda Boring of Atlanta, Ga., and Sharon Doman and husband of Rifle, Colo,; and several great-nephews and great-nieces. In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, William Glen Patton and Gleason George Patton; and a sister, Helena Roney. Thelma was a homemaker and a member of Park Avenue Baptist Church. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Hughey Funeral Home with the Rev. Everett Lemay officiating. Interment will be at Mr. Vernon Memorial Gardens. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the St. Mary's Good Samaritan Hospice and will be accepted at the funeral home.
