Knox J. Beckham
Knox J. Beckham, 82, of Route 1, Bonnie, died 1:25 p.m. Sept. 27, 1994, at Good Smaritan Regional Health Center. He was a retired coal miner at the Freeman Coal Co. Mr. Beckham was born May 16, 1912, in Jefferson County, a son of Sam and Maggie (Martin) Beckham. April 20, 1942, in Perryville, Mo., he married Vera Brown, who survives. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at hughey Funeral Home with the Rev. Jerry Montgomery and the Rev. Mike Kniffen officiating. Burial will be in South Hickory Hill Cemetery.Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Hughey Funeral Home. Military flag presentation services will be conducted by the Chaplain of American Legion Post 141 of Mt. Vernon. Mr. Beckham is survived by his wife, Vera Beckham of Bonnie; two daughters, Beverly A. Montgomery and husband Jerry of Bonnie, and Donna L. Cockrum and husband Leon of Grayslake; seven grandchildren, Kathy Huitzacua, Bradley Cockrum, Bryan Cockrum, Amy Neibel, Heather Montgomery, Crystal Montgomery, and Matthew Cockrum; and nine great-grandchildren. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He enlisted March 4, 1942, and was discharged Sept. 13, 1945. He was also a member of the Antioch Missionary Baptist Church and was a deacon at the church for several years. Mr. Beckham was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters; a brother, and a step-father, Bart artin. For those who wish, memorials may be made to the Hospice Program at the Good Samaritan Regional Health Center and will be accepted at the funeral home.
