Merritt Beckman
Merritt Beckman Of Mt. Vernon Died At Age 65 Merritt Beckman, 65, Route 1, died 5:51 p.m. Jan. 22, 1991, at St. Louis University Hospital. Mr. Beckman was a farmer until retirement. He was born Nov. 17, 1925, in Jefferson County, a son of Joe V. and Lucy M. (Wells) Beckman. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Hughey Funeral Home with Grant Hawkins officiating. Burial will follow at South Hickory Hill Cemetery. Friends may call 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Mr. Beckman is survived by four sisters, Vereta, Evalena, and Ramona Beckman and Glodene Goble, all of Mt. Vernon; two nieces, Rosella Mooney of Mt. Vernon and JoAnn Abrams of Ina; and several great-nieces and great-nephews. Mr. Beckman was an Army veteran of World War II who enlisted Jan 19, 1944, and was discharged Jan. 17, 1946. He was a member of South Hickory Hill Christian Church. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Calvin Beckman.
