John Herbert Bennett, 63, of Mt. Vernon and formerly of Belleville died 8:01 p.m. Jan. 21, 2005, at St. Mary’s Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon.

Mr. Bennett was born June 11, 1941, in Bloomington to Herbert and Jennifer (Auckland) Bennett.

He graduated from Salem High School in 1959. He worked in the engineering department at Scott Air Force Base until retirement in 1996. He was a graduate of Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville. He was a Methodist.

Mr. Bennett was preceded in death by his father.

Survivors include his mother, Jennifer Bennett of Mt. Vernon, and a sister, Patricia Brangle and husband John of St. Louis.

Graveside services will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday at Oddfellows Cemetery of McLeansboro, with the Rev. Rachel Stockle officiating. Newell Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon is in charge of arrangements, where you may call 246-0100 for further information.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or the Red Cross and will be accepted at Newell Funeral Home.
