Margaret A. Benson
Margaret A. Benson, 75, of Mt. Vernon died 6:45 p.m. Jan. 7, 2005, at her home. She was born Feb. 13, 1929, in Jefferson County to Emery and Opal (Hayes) Huston. She first married George C. Trotter on May 13, 1947, and he died April 2, 1967. She then married Owen Benson in December 1978 in Norris City and he died Feb. 6, 1998. She was a nurses aid at the Hamilton County hospital for 22 years. Services are set for 1 p.m. Tuesday at Lighthouse Baptist Church located one mile east of Mt. Vernon-Outland Airport on Illinois 15 East. Burial will follow in Odd Fellows Cemetery in McLeansboro. The Rev. Frank Huston will officiate. Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. today at Lighthouse Baptist Church. Survivors include sons Jerry Trotter and wife Wilma of Mt. Vernon and Calvin Trotter and wife Tina of Mt. Vernon; daughters Marsha Absalom of Salem and Vickie Moore and husband Brad of Dahlgren; brothers Richard Huston and wife Betty of Mt. Vernon, Everett Huston and wife Merlene of Mt. Vernon, Rev. Frank Huston and wife Anita of Mt. Vernon and Jerry Ray Huston and wife Carolyn of Florida; sisters Barbara Poole and husband Stanley of Mt. Vernon and Nellie Petty and husband Lyndell of Florida; 16 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, sister Flora Ellen Trotter and husband Henry Trotter and grandson Chase Delaney. Mrs. Benson was a member of Lighthouse Baptist Church where she was very active and loved very much and served as a member of the Home Community Education. For those who wish, memorials may be made to the Lighthouse Baptist Church and will be accepted at the funeral home or may be mailed to Hughey Funeral Home, P.O. Box 721, Mt. Vernon, IL.
