Paul Charles Bertsch, 94, Mt. Vernon, passed away at 5:27 p.m. Sunday, June 1, 2008, at his home.

He was born in Jefferson County on Sunday, Aug. 31, 1913, a son of Charles and Catherine (Rostollan) Bertsch.

He married Nellie Rockett on May 11, 1936, in Mt. Vernon, and she preceded him in death on July 16, 2001.

Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Thursday at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon with Father Daniel Jurek officiating. Interment will follow at St. Mary Cemetery in Mt. Vernon.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Paul is survived by a daughter, Patricia Ann Green and husband Walter of Texico; six grandchildren, Tammy Donoho and husband Darrell of Texico, Brent Green and wife Michelle of Washington, Ill., Bradley Green and wife DeAnn of Texico, Brian Green and wife Ramona of Texico, Teresa Knight and husband Keith of Texico, and Bruce Green and wife Gina of Texico; 18 grandchildren, Sara Harris and husband Matthew of Texico, Gina Hildreth and husband Bryan of Centralia, Loren and Trevor Underwood of Washington, Ill., Zachrey, Taryn, Mariah, Bryce and Madalyn, Nathaniel, Daniel, Samual and Denea Green, Blake and Megan Green, Kabra, Kelton and Kaylyn Knight, all of Texico; and brother-in-law, Ralph Bill Rockett of Mt. Vernon.

His parents; his sister, Cecilia Bertsch; his brother, Lawrence Bertsch; and his cousin, Walter Rostollan preceded him in death.

Paul worked at the International Shoe Company in Mt. Vernon for 45 years and was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Mt. Vernon.
