John Birdsong
John Birdsong Rites Saturday in Mt. Vernon John Birdsong of 717 East Cook street in Springfield, Ill a former Mt. Vernon resident died at 10:07 a.m. yesterday in St. John's Hospital in that city. He was 69 years, nine months and 4 days old. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday at Myers Chapel with the Rev. Clarence Taylor officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood cemetery. Military services will be in charge of the VFW. The body will lie in state at Myers Chapel where friends may call after 4:00 p.m. today. Mr. Birdsong was born Jan. 4, 1891 in Carmi, the son of Thomas and Frona (Alexander) Birdsong. In 1922, in this city, he was married to Irma F. Bostrand, who preceded him in death in 1948. Survivors include a son, John Birdsong of Springfield; a daughter, Mrs. Margaret Winfree of Carmi; a brother, G.E. Birdsong of New Orleans, LA and two grandchildren. Mr. Birdsong was employed at the Mt. Vernon Car shops many years. He was a veteran of World War I and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion of this City.
