Carolyn M. Birkhead, 63, of Mt. Vernon died 10:20 p.m. Oct. 31, 1998, at St. Mary’s Hospital, Centralia.

She was employed for several years by the Park Forest School District at Park Forest as a records keeper and server in the kitchen department.

Mrs. Birkhead was born May 26, 1935, in Enfield, a daughter of the Rev. Wayne B. and Bertha (Cleveland) York.

March 16, 1956, in Frisco, she married Oral L. Birkhead, who survives.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Hughey Funeral Home with the Rev. Ron Reynolds officiating. Burial will be in Hope Cemetery, Ina.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the Hughey Funeral Home.

Mrs. Birkhead is survived by her husband, Oral L. Birkhead of Mt. Vernon; three daughters, Pamela Owen and husband Michael of Denton, Texas, Paula Sigg and husband Harry of Matteson and Patti Geissler and husband Brian of Tinley Park; four grandchildren, Amanda Longnecker, Angela Longnecker, Sean Owen and Blane Owen; her mother, Bertha York of Urbana; one sister Delores Mayfield and husband Dan of Champaign; one brother, Eldon York and wife Ida of Colorado Spring, Colo.; and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Brirkhead was preceded in death by her father.

She attended Mt. Vernon Baptist Temple.
