Eleanor Birkner, 78, of Mt. Vernon died 7:25 a.m. July 11, 2002, at Jeffersonian Care Center in Mt. Vernon. She was a transcriptionist for Berland Radiology for many years.

Mrs. Birkner was born April 16, 1924, in Mt. Vernon to Fred and Mabel (Moran) Heil.

She first married Jarvis Marshall; he died September 15, 1975.

She later married Warren Birkner on August 4, 1981. He survives.

Funeral services were held 10 a.m. Monday at Hughey Funeral Home. The Rev. Melvin “Buck” Larson officiated. Burial was at Smith Cemetery in Jefferson County. She was a born again Christian and worshiped at Bethel Baptist Church.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. Birkner is survived by 3 stepsons, James “Jim” Marshall and wife Jeannie of Vienna, VA; CW5 John Birkner and wife Dianne of Ft. Campbell, KY; and Gail R. Marshall of Springfield, VA; 2 step daughters, Donna Perjenski and husband Ron of Mt. Vernon and Marilyn Marlow and husband Ron of Mt. Vernon; a sister, Doris Green of Hawthorne, CA; a brother, Fred Heil of Modesto, CA; 14 step-grandchildren; 6 step great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her first husband; parents; one brother Donald Lee Heil; and her grandparents.
