Samuel Sherman Black, son of Samuel and Myra Ann Black was born June 30, 1865 in Jefferson County and departed this life July 6, 1941 at the age of seventy six years, six days.

He was united in marriage at the age of twenty in 1885 to Almira Jane Roberts who preceded him in death, March 5, 1925.

To this union were born the following children who survive: Mrs. Martha Wilson of Mt. Vernon, Mrs. Ona Pitchford of Christopher, Ill., Mrs. Alice Gower of Mt. Vernon, Edward Black of Waltonville, Ernest Black of Mt. Vernon, Clarence Black of Tulsa, Okla., and Howard Black of Decatur, Ill. Also remaining to mourn their loss are ten grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. Two children died in infancy and one at the age of four. We trust that he will gain a home of peace and rest. Two brothers, Thomas Black of Nason and Henry Black of Elvins, Missouri survive. Also a host of other relatives and friends to mourn his loss.

Samuel Sherman Black died at 6:20 a. m. Sunday at the home of his son, Ernest Black, 420 Grand, just six days after observing his 76th birthday.

Funeral services will be held at Abner cemetery in Nason at 2 p. m. Tuesday, July 8. The body will remain at Myers Chapel until the funeral hour, where friends may call at any time.

Mr. Black was born June 30, 1865 in Jefferson county, the son of Samuel Allen Black and Myra Ann Dare Black.

He was untied in marriage with Almira Jane Roberts, who preceded him in death in 1925.

He is survived by four sons, Ed Black of Waltonville, Ernest of Mt. Vernon, Howard of Decatur and Clarence of Tulsa, Oklahoma; three daughters, Mrs. Martha Wilson and Mrs. Alice Gowler of Mt. Vernon and Mrs. Ona Pitchford of Christopher; and two brothers, Tom Black of Nason and Henry Black of Elvins, Mo.
