James L. “June” Bond
James L. “June” Bond, 83, of Mt. Veron, died 1:17 p.m. June 10, 2007, at the White Oak Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Mt. Vernon. James was born April 20, 1924, in Mt. Vernon, a son of Lester and Audrey (Tate) Bond. He married Dona (Boswell) on March 9, 1963, in Mt. Vernon, and she preceded him in death on Feb. 1, 2001. James had previously worked for Jerome Aydt Excavating in Dahlgren and later Beal and Garren Excavating in Boyd. He also enjoyed farming with his son and his brother Harry. He served his country in the United States Army during WWII. He had attended the Faith Lutheran Church. He is also survived by a son, Jimmy Bond and wife Rochelle of Mt. Vernon; two brothers, Ed Bond and wife Ann Marie and Harry Bond and wife Darlene, both of Mt. Vernon; two sisters, Rena and husband Calvin Pierce and Norma Jean and husband Virgil Ford, both of Mt. Vernon; three grandchildren, Brittany, Travis, and Shane Bond and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Dona Bond, one sister Mary Lou Bray, one niece and one nephew. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at Newell Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon with the Rev. Michael Burns officiating. Burial will follow at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery with Military Rites conducted by American Legion Post 141. Friends may call on Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home in Mt. Vernon. For those who wish, memorials may be made to the Pleasant Hill Cemetery and will be accepted at the funeral home.
