Evelyn I. Borden, 76, 1500 Salem Road, died at 5:35 pm Sunday in Barnes Hospital in St. Louis.

Mrs. Borden was born in Herrin March 26, 1905, the daughter of Harlon and Mable (Hallagan) Gammon.

On March 25, 1926 she married Berthold "Bert" Borden, and he survives. Mrs. Borden assisted her husband in the operation of Borden's Market for 35 years.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am Wednesday at the Hughey Funeral Home with the Rev. Keith Stanford officiating. Burial will follow in Hopewell Cemetery. Friends may call after 6 pm Tuesday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Borden was a member of the Logan Street Baptist Church, Women of the Moose, Eastern Star Chapter 223 and White Shrine of Jerusalem Chapter 66.

In addition to her husband, survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Bob (Sharon) Davis and Barbara White both of Mt. Vernon; four grandchildren, Donna Martin of Benton, Christie Bond of Okawville and Laura Vladetich and Lynn Davis, both of Mt. Vernon; two great-grandchildren, Matthew and Michael Martin of Benton; and two sisters, Mrs. Owen (Elizabeth) Irvin and Mrs. Prank (Pack) Henry, both of Mt. Vernon.

Mrs. Borden was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Wastella Haden.
