Leona C. Borowiak
Leona C. Borowiak, 83, of Ashley died 11:40 p.m. Sept. 10, 2005, at St. Mary’s Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon. She was a retired farmer. Mrs. Borowiak was born March 4, 1922, in LaSalle to Henry and Mary (Zowacki) Ledwig. She married Adam “Jess” Borowiak July 15, 1940, in Radom; he preceded her in death Feb. 25, 1987. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon. The Rev. Robert Zwilling will officiate. Burial will follow at Mt. Vernon Memorial Gardens. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. until the time of service Thursday at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon. Mrs. Borowiak is survived by a son, Don Borowiak and wife Fumiko of Nason; two daughters, JoAnn Mifflin of Woodlawn and Linda Borowiak of Ashley; grandchildren Julia Black and husband John of Cocoa Beach, Fla., Bobby Borowiak of Bonnie and James Borowiak and wife Karel of Frohna, Mo.; a great-grandchild, Zachary Borowiak of Frohna, Mo.; sisters Frances Grawe of St. Louis and Dorothy Janoski of Nashville; a brother, Frank Ledwig of Decatur; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; three brothers, Edward, Joe and Michael Ledwig; a sister, Katherine Janowski; and a son-in-law, Albert C. Mifflin. Mrs. Borowiak loved to garden, loved her flowers and loved all of her grandchildren and her great-grandchild. For those who wish, memorials may be made to the donor’s choice and will be accepted at the funeral home or may be mailed to Hughey Funeral Home, P.O. Box 721, Mt. Vernon, IL 62864.
