John H. Boyd
John H. Boyd, 77, of Mt. Vernon died 2 a.m. Jan. 23, 2005, at Crossroads Community Hospital in Mt. Vernon. He was born March 26, 1927, in Mt. Vernon to Harry P. and Maude (North) Boyd. He married Eleanor (Edmondson) Boyd in June 1945 in Mt. Vernon. He was an Illinois State trooper. obtaining the rank of corporal and retired after 25 years. Mr. Boyd served in the United States Navy. Graveside services are set for 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Mt. Vernon Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Those attending the service are asked to go directly to the cemetery on Thursday morning. The Rev. Jonathan Schnautz will officiate. No public visitation will be held. Survivors include his wife, Eleanor Boyd of Mt. Vernon; son Mike Boyd and wife Carol of San Antonio, Texas; grandchildren Mary Kate Story and husband Bo of Conway, Ariz., and Lora Florez and husband Carlos of San Antonio, Texas; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Janet Boyd who died in 1962, and sisters Imogene and Maurine. Mr. Boyd was an instructor at the Illinois State Police Academy in Springfield for many years and was the No. 1 Illinois State Trooper for 12 years. He was a member of First Community Church in Mt. Vernon. For those who wish, memorials may be made to the Mt. Vernon Red Cross and will be accepted at the funeral home or may be mailed to Hughey Funeral Home, P.O. Box 721, Mt. Vernon, IL.
