CHALK BRADFORD FATALLY INJURED SATURDAY NIGHT

Nineteen Year Old Mt. Vernon Youth Dies Shortly After Accident Near Tamaroa Funeral Tuesday

Charles A. "Chalk" Bradford, 19 years old, of 705 Dewey Avenue, was fatally injured about 10:30 Saturday night one mile this side of Tamaroa, when the car in which he and Lloyd White, another Mt. Vernon boy, were riding, struck the guard rail of the hard road and turned completely over.

The car, which right sided itself, was not badly damaged, and the White boy drove into Tamaroa, but Bradford was dead before a physician could be reached.

According to White, who was driving, the car got off the concrete onto the shoulder of the road and when Bradford, in an attempt to help get the car on the highway again, grabbed the steering wheel the rear fender struck the guard rail and turned completely around and turned over. The automobile turned over and right sided itself while still on the road and suffered very little damage except for a broken windshield.

White seeing that his companion was unconcious, drove quickly into Tamaroa and summoned a doctor; but it was too late. White said, "His foot was clamped on the gas feed where he had put it in an attempt to step on the brake and I had to forcefully remove his foot from that position before I could go for a doctor."

Funeral services will be held tomorrow morning at 10:30 at Myers chapel with Rev. Cyrus Maulding officiating, and interment will be made in Oakwood cemetery. The body will remain at home until the funeral hour.

He is survived by his father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. William Bradford, five brothers, Lawrence, Lester, Floyd, Loyd and Billie Jr., all at home and a sister Ida, also at home.
