Halsey Brown
KILLED BY LIGHNING WHILE IN THE WATER Peculiar Circumstances Surrounds the Death of Halsey Brown -Dying Man Rescued by Companion Halsey Brown was killed in a peculiar manner, Saturday night, lightning being the direct agent of his death. In company with Lee Dees he had been "logging" in the creek, south of the city, in McClellan township, and was getting out of the water. A wire fence crossed the creek, and Brown was in the act of crawling through the fence, when a bolt of lightning hit it some distance away, and so charged it that it carried sufficient electricity to cause death to the unfortunate man. He cried out and attracted the attention of Dees, who had just crawled through the fence, and was out on the bank, rubbing his legs that had been made numb by the electrically charged water. Dees rushed to the aid of his stricken friend, but when he reached him there was no sign of life apparent. He was dragged from the water dead. A wife and four children are left to mourn the untimely end of the husband and father. Mr. Brown was a farmer and 38 years old. The funeral was conducted at Wolf Prairie, Sunday. Source: Mt.
