Emma Helen (Buford/Beauford) Brown
Mrs. Emma Helen Brown, of RFD 7, Mt. Vernon, died at 1:50 am today at the age of 57 years, two months and eight days. Mrs. Brown was born in Jefferson County January 3, 1897, the daughter of Ralph and Etta (Owens) Buford (Beauford). In 1918 she was married in East St. Louis, to William E. Brown, who survives. She was a member of the Babtist church. Funeral Services will be held Saturday at 2 pm at the Pulley Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Bird Green. Burial will be in Hopewell cemetery. The body will lie in state at the Pulley Funeral Home where friends may call after 10 am Friday. Surviving, besides her husband, are her mother, Etta, two sons, William C. of Opdyke and Frank R. of Mt. Vernon; three daughters, Mrs. Edna Keef of Mt. Vernon, Mrs. Doris Hughey of Mt. Vernon and Mrs. Betty McMahan of Peoria; 10 grandchildren. Two brothers and a sister are dead. She had been in failing health for the past year. She suffered a stroke late yesterday and died early today, a short time after being admitted to Jefferson Memorial Hospital.
