William M. Brown
W. M. Brown, son of John and Sylvia Brown, was born September 15, 1848, in Jefferson county, Ill., near Opdyke, and the greater part of his long life was spent in and near Mt. Vernon where he followed the occupation of hostler and was wonderfully humane in his treatment of the dumb animals under his care. On the 11th day of May, 1893, he was united in marriage with Miss Catherine McAtee, who alone survives him, with the exception of a few distant relatives. He united with the Presbyterian church in this city several years ago during the pastorate of Rev. W.V. McAdoo and always loved to go the house of God when his health permitted and took great pleasure in reading and hearing read God's word. His life peacefully came to a close at his home, 1009 south Thirteenth street, this city, at 10:30 o'clock on the morning of July 6th, 1925.
