Ruby (Clifton) Bruce
Ruby K. (Clifton) Bruce, 89, of Mt. Vernon died at 3:58 a.m. Thursday April 22, 2004, at her home. She was born on Aug. 17, 1914, in Jefferson County, daughter of Henry J. and Janie (Shelton) Clifton. She married Charles Robert "Bob" Bruce on May 18, 1935, in Nashville, and he preceded her in death on Dec. 12, 1980. Mrs. Bruce is survived by a son, Robert E. "Bobby" Bruce and wife Cindy of Mt. Vernon; three granddaughters, Casey Bruce, Heidi Bruce and Cody Bruce, all of Mt. Vernon; a nephew, Howard Gene Clifton of Mt. Vernon; a niece, Doris June Mabry of Benton; three great-nephews, Gary Mabry of Marion, Larry Mabry of Benton and Scott Clifton of Mt. Vernon; a great-niece, Mary Hane Richard of Mt. Vernon; and a very special friend, Helen Villarreal of Mt. Vernon. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Howard Clifton and Lawrence Clifton; and a sister, Florence (Clifton) Taylor. Mrs. Bruce lived in the Campground area for most of her life and worked with her sister, Florence Taylor, in the restaurant business at the Jefferson County Livestock Auction. Later, she worked in the dietary department at Good Samaritan Hospital until her retirement in 1979. Graveside services willbe held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Mt. Vernon Memorial Gardens Cemetery with the Rev. Dan Lovin officiating. Those attending are asked to go directly to the cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon. Memorials may be made to the Home Health and Hospice of St. Mary's Good Samaritan Hospital or the Jefferson County Historical Society and will be accepted at the funeral home.
