Leslie R. Brumley
MOUNT VERNON, Ill. - Leslie R. Brumley, 66, of Mount Vernon went home to be with the Lord at 3:45 p.m. Monday, April 23, 2007, at his home. He was born Thursday, Feb. 6, 1941, in Owensboro to Givin Brumley and Erdie (Goodman) Brumley. He married Barbara Parke on June 11, 1990, in Austin, Texas, and was a former captain of security at General Tire in Mount Vernon. Leslie served in the Army from 1958 to 1961, was a member of Campground Baptist Church and enjoyed coin collecting, woodworking and bird-watching. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Shirley "Buster" Moore and Orville Moore; and two sisters, Ednell "Sis" Pogue and Rebecca Spell. Survivors include his wife, Barbara Brumley of Mount Vernon; a son, Ricky Brumley of Nashville; two daughters, Dana Swiss and husband Steve of Fond du Lac, Wis., and Debra Gillenwater of Mount Vernon; a granddaughter, Samantha Swiss of Fond du Lac; four brothers, James "Buddy" Brumley of Philpot, Weldon Brumley and wife Wilma of Owensboro, Charles H. Brumley and wife Mary of Beaver Dam and Dan Stites of Owensboro; a sister, Ruby Renfro and husband Jim of Owensboro; and several nieces and nephews. Services are at 10 a.m. Thursday at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, with Chaplain Dan Lovin officiating. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 tonight at the funeral home. Interment will be in Smith-Veterans Cemetery in Jefferson County, Illinois. The chaplain of Mount Vernon American Legion Post 141 will conduct a military flag presentation.
