George Bryan
George Bryan, 89, 1006 Gilbert St., died at 10 p.m., July 9, 1987, at Good Samaritan Hospital. Mr. Bryan was born Aug. 14, 1897, in Jefferson County, a son of John N. and Harriet E. (Oakley) Bryan. On March 13, 1915, in Mt. Vernon, he married Lena B. Reynolds. She died June 17, 1970. Mr. Bryan was a carpenter and contractor prior to his retirement. He served as road commissioner of Dodds Township for two terms. He also helped build the Rogers Building in downtown, Mt. Vernon. The funeral will be 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Hughey Funeral Home and the Rev. Byford Campbell will officate. Burial will follow in South Hickory Hill Cemetery. Mr. Bryan is survived by one son, Floyd Bryan and wife Dolena of Opdyke; one daughter, Mrs. George (Pearl) Lomax of Opdyke; four grandchildren, Maurice E. Lomax, Kathy Albright, Rita Advants and Cynthia Rice; 11 great grandchildren and six great great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Bryan was a member of Bakersville Freewill Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, six brothers, three sisters and one granddaughter.
