Lenora E. (Groothius) Peterson Bumpus
Lenora E. (Peterson) Bumpus, 85, of Columbia, and formerly of Woodlawn, passed away at 8:45 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 21, 2008, at her home. She was born in Dietrich, Ill., on Aug. 23, 1923, a daughter of George and Mary (Neal) Groothius. She was first married to Donald Peterson. She married Dallas M. "Mac" Bumpus on Aug. 4, 1985, and he preceded her in death on Aug. 12, 1992. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon with Mr. Bob Davis officiating. Interment will follow at Mount Catherine Cemetery in Woodlawn. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Lenora is survived by daughter and stepson, Donna and Jerry Bumpus of Rolla, Mo.; daughter, Darlene Cooley and husband Roy of Columbia; three stepsons, Dallas W. Bumpus of Lone Pine, Calif., George F. Bumpus and wife Carol of Grand Tower and Jim Bumpus of Kentucky; three grandchildren, Tammy Call of Sierra Vista, Ariz., Debbie Sanders and husband Brad of O'Fallon and Scott Bullock and wife Keyma of Columbia; five great-grandchildren, Amber Meadows and husband Wade of Scott AFB, Zachary Dorris and wife Amanda of O'Fallon, Dylan Bullock of Columbia, Emily Call of Sierra Vista, Ariz., and Sydney Bullock of Columbia; three great-great-grandchildren, Benjamin Dorris of O'Fallon, Charlotte Meadows of Scott AFB and Blake Dorris of O'Fallon; brother, Delton Groothius and wife Wanda of Mesquite, Texas, daughter-in-law, Marsha Peterson of Mt. Vernon; and several step-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Her parents; both husbands; four brothers; two sisters; one son, Donald "Pete" Peterson; and one stepson, Donald Bumpus preceded her in death. Lenora worked as an office clerk for 28 years at the ASCS office in Mt. Vernon until retirement; she was a lifetime member of the Ladies' Auxiliary to V.F.W. Post 1376 and a member of Mount Catherine Christian Church. She was a loving and proud mother and grandmother.
