Neal Bumpus
Wabash Valley WEST UNION, Ill. - Neal Bumpus, 96, of rural West Union, died at 2:10 p.m.. Saturday, Nov. 12, 2005, in Burnsides Nursing Home in Marshall. He was a retired life-long farmer. He was born March 6, 1909, near Belle Rive in Jefferson County. He married Mildred E. Bumpus on Feb. 9, 1930, and she preceded him in death on June 4, 2002. Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Reta Bumpus of rural West Union; three daughters and sons-in-law, Dorthea and Robert Wernz of rural West Union, Kathryn and George Walsh of Dallas, and Jean and Robert Buckner of Farmersburg, Ind.; one brother, Howard Bumpus of Detroit; 14 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He also was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son, Donald Gene Bumpus; a grandson, Chris Darren Wernz; and six brothers. He was a member of Brick United Methodist Church and Clark County Farm Bureau. Services are 11 a.m. CST Thursday in Prust-Hosch Funeral Chapel, with Brother Larry Morecraft officiating. Burial is in Walnut Prairie Cemetery, northeast of West Union. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, and 7 a.m. until services Thursday. The family requests that memorial contributions may be made to Walnut Prairie Cemetery, to assist with its upkeep.
