Geo. N. Burger
Geo. Burger, one of the best known residents of Mt. Vernon township, died at his home four miles northeast of the city this morning, of a complication of troubles, after a long illness. Deceased was born in Connecticut in 1819, consequently was in the eightieth year of age. When a young man Mr. Burger moved with his parents to Pennsylvania where he lived for some time, afterwards moving successively to Indiana, Northern Illinois, Iowa and Jefferson county. Mr. Burger came here about the close of the war and has resided here ever since. In politics he was a staunch republican, although in his younger days he was an uncompromising democrat. By his thrift and industry he accumulated a large estate and at the time of his death owned six or seven hundred acres of good farming land in addition to valuable notes, mortgages and other property. Deceased leaves a wife but no children. A brother Harry Burger, lives in the neighborhood and with a sister residing at St. Paul, Minn., constitutes the only immediate members of the family now living. The funeral and interment will take place at Hopewell at 10 am tomorrow.
