“Aunt” Martha Burger, Who Lived Entire Life in Mt. Vernon Twp., Will Be Buried Tomorrow at Hopewell.

Martha E. Burger, widow of Geo. N. Burger, died yesterday afternoon about 2 o'clock at the home of her sister, Mrs. Mary Allen, at the old family homestead in the northeast part of Mt. Vernon township. She was the oldest of a family of seven children.

Mrs. Burger was born August 21, 1839, and her long life was spent in the Mt. Vernon township.

She died on the farm on which she was born.

She was generally known as "Aunt" Martha Burger.

Mrs. Burger lived several years in Mt. Vernon following the death of her husband. Last winter she visited her sister, Mrs. Allen, and in December fell and broke her hip and was never able to walk afterward. She owned property in Mt. Vernon at that time, and sold the property after her fall. Mrs. Burger was very cheerful and optimistic, not withstanding her injury and endured her misfortune uncomplainingly, but at her advanced age the injury naturally was more serious than with a younger person.

Mrs. Burger was a daughter of the late W.F. and Lucretia Johnson. She was a member of one of Jefferson county's oldest and most highly respected families.

She was united in marriage with George N. Burger January 5,1876.

Mrs. Burger was a member of Hopewell M. E. Church and a faithful, consecrated Christian throughout her life.

She had many friends not only among the older residents of Mt. Vernon and Jefferson county, but also the younger people of her acquaintance

Funeral services will be held tomorrow afternoon at 2 o'clock at Hopewell M. E. Church, conducted by the Rev. W. J. Leslie, and burial will follow at Hopewell Cemetery.
