Reba P. Burgess, 83, of Mt. Vernon died 12:05 p.m. Jan. 23, 2005, at Nature Trail Health Care Center in Mt. Vernon.

She was born June 17, 1921, in Jefferson County to Walter and Millie (Bradford) Keen.

On April 15, 1938, she married Arvel Owen Burgess in Henderson, Ky.; he survives.

Mrs. Burgess was a homemaker.

Services are set for 1 p.m. Wednesday at Hughey Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery. The Revs. Gene Auxier and Richard McCormick will officiate. Visitation is set for 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Survivors include husband Arvel Owen Burgess of Mt. Vernon; daughters Shirley LaVielle of St. Louis and Beverly Gaines and husband James of Opdyke; grandchildren Michelle Stevens and husband Wil of Cedarburg, Wis., Stephanie Morgan and husband Eric of Mt. Vernon, Eric Gaines and wife Amanda of Opdyke; Steven Fox and wife Janine of Lake Elsinore, Calif., and Suzette Clark of California; great-grandchildren Jordan, Sydney, Adam, Makena, Kyle, Trevor, Devon, Collin and Cooper; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; son Gary Burgess; sister Freida Rector; and brothers Nelson, Jake and Woodrow Keen.

Mrs. Burgess was a member of East Salem Baptist Church.
