Juanita F. (Poston) Burmeister

Juanita F. Burmeister, 69, of Rockford died 5:48 p.m. Aug. 25,1999, at Swedish American Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer.

She was born Sept. 23, 1929, in Mt. Vernon, a daughter of Robert and Kathryn Tucker Poston.

She was retired from Green Thumb, where she worked at D.C.F.S. and Youth Built.

She was past resident of Ross Pearson Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5149 Auxiliary. She was past madam president of the Eagles Club, a member of Grand Auxiliary and a past national commandant. She was a past squadron commander and local commander of Navy Club Ship No. 1. Juanita was a very giving person who was always willing to help anyone in need.

She will be greatly missed by daughters Dianna (Scott) Baker of Alma, Wis., and Kathryn (Harold) Barnes of Rockford; grandson Geoffrey Barnes, whom she doted on; sister Norma Jean (Owen) Rainwater of Mt. Vernon; nieces Roberta Bontjes and Kristina Rogers, both of Rockford, and Michelle (Mike) Barnes of Tell City, Ind.; nephews Donald (Carol) Rogers of Palatine, Mike Rogers of Rockford, Randy (Cindy)Bontjes of Rockton, Steven (Mandy) Bontjes of Byron, and Paul (Christy) Rainwater of Perryville, Mo.; special loving companion Owen “Goody” Goodwin and children; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.

Juanita was preceded in death by her parents; daughter Barbara Andrea; sisters Doris Eleanor Cornelius, Sandra Kay Perkins and Roberta June Poston; and nephew Robert D. Rogers.

Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Bethel Cemetery in Mt. Vernon, with the Rev. Mike Barnes officiating. Those attending the services are asked to go directly to the cemetery on Saturday. Hughey Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Family and friends may call Hughey Funeral Home at 242-3348 for obituary information at any time.
