Freda Y. (Wagner) Burns
Freda Y. Burns, 73, of Mt. Vernon died at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2002, at her home. She was born November 28, 1928, in Winfield Kan. daughter of Lincoln and Bonnie (Smith) Wagner. Mrs. Burns is survived by three daughters, Debra Sue Sargent and husband Mike, Cindy Johnston and husband Mike and Shelby Skidmore and husband Jeff, all of Mt. Vernon; two brothers, Wayne Wagner and wife Marilyn and Ronald and wife Judy, all of Mt. Vernon; a sister Wanda Wagner of Mt. Vernon; seven grandchildren, Mindy Siefert and husband Jay of St. Louis and Tyson Sargent, Kaitlin Johnston, Mallory Johnston, Jacob Skidmore, Jason Skidmore and Adrienne Skidmore, all of Mt. Vernon; and several nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Patrick A. Burns; and an infant brother, Gerald Burton Wagner. Mrs. Burns worked for many years as a surgical technician in the surgery department at Good Samaritan Regional Health Center (now St.Mary's/Good Samaritan Hospital). After retirement in 1991, she worked for the Green Thumb program until the last year. She was a member of Logan Street Baptist Church. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Hughey Funeral Home with the Rev. Roger Tate officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Vernon Memorial Gardens. Friends may call from 9 a.m. until the time of services Saturday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Diabetes Association and will be accepted at the funeral home.
