Rev. J.D. Burton, 82, of Near Kell dies last night The Rev. J.D. Burton, 82, a retired Baptist minister who resided north of Kell, died at 8:30 Thurday night at Salem Memorial Hospital. He had been ill for some time and had been a hospital patient for the past two weeks. The Rev. Mr. Burton preached in Marion and Jefferson County churches for many years and was for years clerk of the Salem South Baptist Association. For years he was pastor of the Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church. Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2:00 pm at the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. The Rev. Bird Green will officiate and burial will be in Bell Cemetary. The body will remain at the Osborn Funeral Home in Kell until 4 pm Saturday, then will be taken to the family home. The Rev. Mr. Burton was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Burton. His father was also a Baptist minister. He was married to Fannie Wilkins, who survives. Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons, J.H. of Sidell, Ill. and Charles of Kell; four daughters, Grace Center of Long View, Ill., Pearl Thomas of Salem, Lovell Zincer of Centralia and Verda Dennison of Paris, Ill., one sister Lottie Byars of Salem.
