Mellie Carden Dies At Age 89; Funeral Friday Mrs. Mellie Taylor Carden of this city died at 9:20 a.m. today upon arrival from the Hester Nursing Home in Ina, to the Good Samaritan Hospital. Mrs. Carden was 89 years, 10 months and 27 days of age. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday in the chapel of the Pulley Funeral Home. The Rev. Dale Harmon will officiate, and burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery. The body will lie in state in the Pulley Funeral Home and friends may call after 4 p.m. Thursday. A member of the First Methodist Church in Mt. Vernon for 75 years, Mrs. Carden was active in church and club work until her health failed. She was a member of the DAR, and a charter member and past president of the Federated Women's Club of Mt. Vernon. She was born July 16, 1866, in Mt. Vernon, the daughter of A.F. and Elmira Hicks Taylor. First married to J. Hill Williams, deceased, she later married Fred Carden, who also preceded her in death. Mrs. Carden is survived only by one nephew and several cousins.
