Donald Zeke Carello

Donald "Dago" Zeke Carello, 65, Mt. Vernon, passed away at 10:26 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 2, 2008, at his residence.

He was born in West Frankfort on July 18, 1943, a son of Zeke Carello and Mildred (Sweetin) Carello.

He married Marsha Nicholson in Benton on April 22, 1966.

Funeral mass will be held 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary Catholic Church in Mt. Vernon. Father John Iffert will officiate. A military flag presentation will be conducted by Mt. Vernon American Legion Post 141. Interment will follow at a later date at St. Mary Cemetery in Mt. Vernon.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday with a rosary service to be held at 8 p.m. at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon.

Dago is survived by his mother, Mildred Carello of West Frankfort; wife, Marsha Carello of Mt. Vernon; three sons, Jeff Carello and wife Tammy of Mt. Vernon, Tony Carello and wife Karen of Suffolk, Va., and Patrick Carello and wife Patience of Burwick, La.; grandchildren, Brandon, Travis, Trace, and Talia Carello of Mt. Vernon, Markari and Samaria Carello of Suffolk, Va., and Kalei and Breaunna Carello of Burwick, La.; great-grandson, Triston Carello of Mt. Vernon; sister, Mary Kay Somers and husband Tom of West Frankfort; very special cousins, Gene Carello of West Frankfort and Tim Kuca of Fredericksburg, Va.; nephew, Tommy Somers and wife Jamie of Sesser; great-niece, Brittany Somers of Sesser; two uncles, Harold Broski of Columbus, Ohio, and Odel Jines of Benton; and aunt, Betty Sweetin of Sesser.

His father preceded him in death.

Mr. Carello owned Campus Q Billiard Parlor and was a golf pro. He was a member of the Mt. Vernon American Legion Post 141 and Moose Lodge 755, He was once the golf pro at Crooked Creek, Green Hills, and Indian Hills Golf Course.

For those who wish, memorials may be given to the St. Mary Church Building Fund or School and will be accepted at the funeral home or may be mailed to Hughey Funeral Home, P.O. Box 721, Mount Vernon, IL 62864.
