Sota Agnes (Vaughn) Carpenter
Mrs. Sota Agnes Carpenter died at 9:30 pm Sunday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Richard Ratliff of Route 6, Mt. Vernon. She was 85 years, five months and eight days of age. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2:00 pm at the Osborn Funeral Home in Dix. The Rev. Ross Partridge will officiate and burial will be in Hopewell Cemetery. The body will lie in state at the Osborn Funeral Home in Dix, where friends may call after 4:00 pm Tuesday. Mrs. Carpenter was born February 17, 1880 in Mt. Vernon, the daughter of John E. and Frances E. (Sledge) Vaughn. On February 20, 1898 she was married to James Albert Carpenter, who preceded her in death February 8, 1957. Mrs. Carpenter was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist church. She is survived by two sons, Roy F. Carpenter of Tallahassee, Fla., and Earl H. Carpenter of Peoria, Ill.; three daughters, Mrs. Richard Ratliff, Mrs. Clifford Johnson and Mrs. Dorothy Williams, all of Mt. Vernon; one brother, Frank E. Vaughn of Knobnoster, Mo.; three sisters, Mrs. Minnie Rough of Mt. Vernon and Mrs. Ethel Quillen and Mrs. Nina Donoho of Youngtown, Arizona; ten grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
