Wanda Lee (Mullinax) Carpenter
Wanda Lee Carpenter, 77, of Mt. Vernon died at 2:40 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 17, 2004, at Nature Trail Health Care Center in Mt. Vernon. Mrs. Carpenter was born on Jan. 23, 1926, in Mt. Vernon, daughter of Bartholomy and Jewell (Dodson) Mullinax. She married James Franklin Carpenter on Nov. 12, 1951, and he preceded her in death on March 12, 1985. Mrs. Carpenter is survived by a daughter, Judy Emmons and husband Clarence Jr. of Elburn; a sister, Grace Schmitt and husband David of Mt. Vernon; three grandchildren, James Emmons of Baraboo, Wis., Scott Emmons and wife Michele of Hinckley and Julie Thomas and husband Lonnie of Aurora; four great grandchildren, Levi Emmons of Baraboo, Wis., Jennifer Emmons of Hinckley, Tyler Thomas and Owen Thomas both of Aurora; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, Mrs. Carpenter was preceded in death by her parents; a son Larry Lee Newton; three brothers, Delvin Mullinax, Everett Millinax and Richard Mullinax; and two sisters, Violet Scarber and Mildred Bradshaw. Mrs. Carpenter was a homemaker and member of Casey Avenue Baptist Church. Services will be held at 10 a.m. today at Hughey Funeral Home with the Rev. Brian Palmer officiating. Interment will follow at Boyd Cemetery in rural Jefferson County. Memorials may be made to the St. Mary's Hospice and will be accepted at the funeral home.
