Norma Evelyn (Ratliff) Cassel
Norma Evelyn Cassel, 86, of Mt. Vernon, and recently of Cocoa, Fla., passed away at 7:10 p.m. on Friday, August 1, 2008 at the Parrish Medical Center in Titusville, Florida. She was born in in Harrisburg on August 23, 1921, a daughter of Richard M. and Cora J. Carpenter Ratliff. She married Dr. William Cassel and he preceded her in death. Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Osborn Funeral Home in Dix with Jonathan Schnautz officiating. Burial will follow at Hopewell Cemetery. Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home. Norma is survived by a son William R. Cassel and wife Gloria of Port St. John, Florida, daughters, Vida Price and husband Jack of Girard, and Barbara S. Gillespie of Titusville, Fla.; six grandchildren, Michael Price, Brandy Wamsley, Laura Gillespie, Leah Gillespie Richard Cassel and Karen Lenck, and two great grandchildren, Benjamin Wamsley and Elijah Lenck. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband. Norma was a life-long nurse, having worked at Doctor’s Memorial Hospital in Carbondale. She graduated Mt. Vernon Township High School and Washington University School of Nursing. She served as a volunteer with the Good Samaritan Hospital Auxiliary.
